Many older Canberra homes, particularly brick-and-tile ex-government properties, lose a significant amount of heat through the roof.
The Home
Recently, our team at House Insulation Canberra helped Jen from North Canberra improve the comfort and energy efficiency of her home with a new ceiling insulation installation.
Jen’s property is a classic ex-government brick-and-tile home, a style commonly found throughout Canberra. Homes built during this era often have minimal or deteriorated ceiling insulation, which can make them cold in winter and expensive to heat.
After moving into the property, Jen engaged our team to complete several insulation-related works, including upgrading the home’s ceiling insulation to improve year-round comfort.
Many homeowners are surprised by how much heat can escape through an uninsulated roof. According to the Australian Government’s YourHome Guide to Insulation, properly installed insulation helps reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, making homes more comfortable and energy efficient.
The Solution
Our team assessed the existing insulation and installed new high-performance ceiling insulation designed to reduce heat loss through the roof and improve the overall thermal efficiency of the home.
Improving insulation can also support broader household energy efficiency goals. The ACT Government’s Home Energy Support information explains how insulation upgrades can reduce energy use and help households lower heating and cooling costs.
Jen shared that “the team at House Insulation Canberra have been absolutely wonderful to deal with,” adding that “every experience has been excellent.”
She also highlighted the service provided throughout the project, noting that “their service is outstanding from first contact right through to job completion” and describing our business as “a hardworking family-run business who clearly take pride in what they do.”
The project also required extra care due to a family member with a severe chemical allergy. Jen said our team “went above and beyond to accommodate our needs,” ensuring the materials and installation process were suitable for her household.
She summed up the experience by saying it’s “rare to find tradespeople who combine such professionalism with warmth and integrity.”
